Tezel Substation

The Tezel Community Dialog & the Board Public Input Session
was held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 @ 5:30 PM.

Tezel Substation and Transmission Line Project

The Tezel Substation and Transmission Line Project involves the proposed construction of a new electric substation and transmission line in the northwest part of Bexar County in the area west of IH10 and inside Loop 1604 near the intersection of Guilbeau and Tezel Roads. CPS Energy is evaluating multiple substation site alternatives and transmission line options for the project.

A substation is a local power hub or distribution point for electricity. This substation will improve reliability and provide additional electric capacity to homes and businesses in the area. The substation will be supplied from a new extension of an existing high-voltage transmission line illustrated in the study area map. The substation will supply electric power to homes and businesses in the immediate area through lower-voltage distribution lines.

The substation requires a minimum of two acres; the transmission right of way would be approximately 75 feet wide.

Our website will include regular updates on the project as steps are completed. Also, you may call, write or email:

The Project Team completed the public involvement phase of the Routing & Siting process, environmental and engineering analysis, and on May 24, 2021, made a recommendation to CPS Energy’s Board of Trustees. We will be hosting a virtual Public Input Session in June. The invitation and additional information will follow soon. In July, we plan to seek approval for the Tezel Project from the Board of Trustees.
